In the early hours of June 6th, a tornado swept through Leamington Ontario the self-proclaimed greenhouse capital of Canada, leaving a path of destruction. No major injuries or deaths were reported. With millions of dollars of damage to both residential and commercial properties, agricultural workers expressed fears that the natural disaster would cause a major disruption in employment. An estimated one hundred and fifty farm workers, participants in Canada's Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program, were believed to be at risk of lay-off or termination. Worker advocates have suggested that disaster relief must include provision for the re-deployment of these workers to other farms in the region or financial compensation for lost wages.
